At the heart of By the Book is Alex—a craftsman, a husband, a father, and someone who genuinely cares about the people he works for.

Alex has spent more than 20 years in the trades, building his career around craftsmanship, attention to detail, and doing things the right way. As a master carpenter, he has an eye for the details that can easily be overlooked—but to him, those details matter. The finished product should be something he is proud to put his name on.

But craftsmanship is only part of what sets Alex apart.

He puts people before production.

A remodeling project is a significant investment, and Alex understands that homeowners are trusting him with more than their money. They’re trusting him with their home and a space that matters to their everyday lives. He takes that seriously. He doesn’t cut corners or put production ahead of doing the job right. If something isn’t right, he wants to know about it and will work to make it right. At the end of the day, he wants every customer to be truly happy with the work—even when doing the right thing means going the extra mile.

That care is at the heart of how we run our business. We treat our customers’ homes with respect, communicate throughout the process, and take pride in the work we leave behind. We’re building By the Book one project at a time, and we want every customer to feel good about their experience long after we’ve packed up our tools.

While Alex is often the face of the work, there's a lot that happens behind the scenes to keep By the Book running. His wife, Savannah, is involved in nearly every part of the business, handling paperwork, administrative details, and much of the day-to-day work that goes into running the company. It's something they've built together, with each of them playing an important role.

Alex and Savannah are proud to call Port Orchard home, where they're raising their three children. Their family and business are both rooted here in Kitsap County, and they enjoy being part of the community they've chosen to call home.
